Fire at Piarco Airport forces closure of runway

The Airports Authority has confirmed that a fire occurred this morning at the Amerijet warehouse facility in Piarco, at the South Terminal of the airport.

The fire is now under control, after the Piarco Fire Station responded immediately, supported by units from the Arima Fire Station.

In a statement issued just before 8am, the Authority said flight operations at this time have been suspended.

These will resume as soon as the fire services and Civil Aviation Authority gives clearance.

It noted that passengers should liaise with their airlines due to delayed flights, as a result of the fire.
