Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly Farley Augustine is calling on Sandals to invest its own money in Tobago, adding he has no issue with its investment on the island.
At a Tobago People’s Party political meeting over the weekend, Mr Augustine highlighted that the previous plan lacked meaningful consultation with the island’s residents.
Mr Augustine also asserted that the THA should be the primary body responsible for tourism development on the island and should take the lead on negotiations with the investors.
At a post cabinet press briefing last week, Prime Minister Stuart Young said in an attempt to revive investments for a Sandals hotel in Tobago, Mr Augustine and other stakeholders have agreed to participate in discussions.
The meeting with Sandal’s executive chairman Adam Stewart is scheduled to take placed today.
