Prime Minister Stuart Young says US State Secretary Marco Rubio has assured that there is no intention to harm T&T’s energy sector.
At today’s post cabinet news conference, Mr Young divulged more about yesterday’s meeting with Mr Rubio in Jamaica, which included discussions on the Dragon Gas deal.
There are concerns over the future of the deal, after the US stated its intention to impose tariffs on any nation buying oil from Venezuela.
The PM says he emphasized the importance of the arrangement to T&T and CARICOM, while also explaining how it was structured and the work done so far.
Mr Young says he also raised the matter of the OFAC license for the Dragon field, which is due to expire in October.
The PM says work by Shell on the Dragon field is continuing.
