UNC MP calls for Minister to be investigated

A UNC MP is calling for investigations relating to an explanation from Housing Minister Adrian Leonce regarding a recent business venture.

Earlier this week, Mr Leonce admitted to registering a company in the UK alongside and using the address of an individual who was the subject of an investigation.

Mr Leonce said when he found out in July 2024, he immediately terminated the company and insists that at no time was he involved in any illegal activity, either directly or indirectly.

At a media conference today, Barataria/San Juan MP Saddam Hosein dismissed this explanation, believing there to be inconsistencies.

He also slammed Prime Minister Stuart Young’s acceptance of Mr Leonce’s explanation.

Mr Hosein is calling for the Housing Minister to be relieved of his portfolio and for Mr Young to launch an investigation into the matter.

He also wants a police investigation and an Integrity Commission probe to determine if Mr Leonce had declared his involvement in the company.

Mr Leonce meanwhile is said to have commented today, as he spoke to reporters at the launch of the East Port of Spain Development Company’s UpSkill Me internship programme in El Socorro.

According to a report by Newsday, the Minister said he “put the facts out there” in an effort to be transparent.

He also reportedly stated that he will not be distracted by the narrative being crafted on social media and even laughed off suggestions that this matter have influenced the UK’s recent decision to require visas for T&T nationals.
