TTPS: Extortion ring successfully dismantled

The TTPS says a second individual has been charged as part of ongoing investigations into a significant extortion ring operating within several business communities across the country.

A multi-agency investigation named ‘Operation Extortion Eradicator’ is said to have targeted individuals on the outside, as well as high-risk inmates, operating from within the nation’s prisons.

The first breakthrough came in January 2025 when Sabrina Kalleecharran was arrested and charged with five counts of Demanding Money with Menaces and One Count of Robbery with Aggravation.

Subsequent work led to the seizure of several electronic devices linked to the extortion ring, leading to charges against an ECRC inmate.

He was this week charged with five counts of Demanding Money by Menaces and one count of Robbery with Aggravation

The suspect and Kalleecharran will appear jointly before the courts to answer to the charges.

The TTPS says other successes arising out of the searches and investigations were the seizure of contraband items from the ECRC

These included:

  • Two TT$10 bills -Copper wiring
  • Brown-colored wire with plastic insulation
  • One lighter
  • A charging port for a cellular phone
  • One improvised weapon

A 33-year-old inmate on remand for murder, is expected to be charged by prison officials for Possession of Unauthorised/Prohibited Articles.
