The Labour Ministry is working with the International Labour Organisation to develop a policy to address Child Labour in T&T.
In a statement it says the policy is one of the main objectives of the National Steering Committee for the Prevention and Elimination of Child Labour and is expected to be completed by November 2025.
The project’s consultant, Dr. Kimberly-Ann Gittens-Baynes, said the Committee is also working to develop Hazardous Child Labour and Light Work Lists, while also building the capacity of Labour Inspectors to investigate and prosecute child labour reports.
ILO project lead Resel Melville confirmed the organisation’s technical and financial support for the initiative and commended T&T’s progress to strengthen the policy frameworks to protect its children.
