Opposition Leader warns against Stuart Young’s upcoming PM role

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar has warned against the impending appointment of Stuart Young as Prime Minister.

During last evening’s UNC Cottage Meeting, Mrs Persad-Bissessar claimed that as long as Dr Keith Rowley is PNM leader, he cannot relinquish his role in the Parliament under Section 76 of the Constitution.

As such, she says Mr Young will not be able to assume the role of Prime Minister.

The Opposition Leader also outlined the process by which the new leader of Government must be appointed, adding that if it is not followed, it will be challenged by UNC lawyers in court.

She is instead, urging Dr Rowley to dissolve Parliament and call the General Election.
