Former Temporary Opposition Senator Jowelle de Souza has resigned from the UNC effective immediately.
In an announcement via Facebook, the former senator claimed her appointment was a political maneuver to serve the party’s interest and not to address national critical issues, particularly animal rights for which she advocates.
De Souza said she was troubled by the current trajectory of the UNC, particularly the leadership’s handling of party supporter concerns and will no longer participate in any UNC internal elections or fundraising activities.
This resignation follows several others in the past weeks, including Cumuto/Manzanilla MP Dr Rai Ragbir, Attorney Larry Lalla and Chaguanas West MP Dinesh Rambally’s candidacy withdrawal for this year’s general election.
