The Council for Responsible Political Behaviour says it has received several complaints regarding breaches of the Code of Ethical Political Conduct.

In a statement, the Council says a formal complaint was lodged by the National Transformation Alliance regarding comments made by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley.

Having reviewed the speech, the Council is of the view that the language used was “clearly inappropriate and insensitive” and runs counter to clauses in two sections of the Code.

Two other matters raised were:

· A claim that inducements are being made to facilitate party jockeying, something the Council says it has not investigated and cannot rule on the validity of

· Claims of smear campaigns, which the Council says has not been carefully reviewed

The Council is now calling on all 373 Local Government Election candidates to adhere to the provisions of the Code.
