Labour Ministry: Migrant workers have same rights as TT nationals

The Labour Ministry says migrant workers are entitled to the same workers’ rights as Trinidad and Tobago nationals.

This follows a Labour Inspectorate Migrant Workshop Series which highlighted the laws that apply to migrant workers.

They include the Minimum Wages Act, 1976 Chap 88:04, the Maternity Protection Act, 1998 Chap 45:57 and the Children Act, Part XIV (Employment of Young Persons

Rights for Minimum Wage Workers include minimum wage of no less than $20.50 an hour, two weeks vacation after 12 consecutive months of employment and access to maternity protection rights.
