Siparia Mayor warns of risk in using bridge constructed by residents

Siparia Mayor Doodnath Mayhroo is warning of the risk involved when using a recently installed footbridge over the Godineau River.

The bridge was constructed by residents themselves, since they say nothing has been done by those in authority following the collapse of St John’s bridge in June last year.

This cut off a community, whose residents were forced for months to use a small boat to cross the river.

Mr Mayhroo says his Corporation did not give any approvals for the temporary structure.

The bridge falls within the jurisdiction of the Regional Corporation, however Mr Mayhroo says reconstruction will cost millions, which they do not have.
