Supporter of the Paria Justice Committee, Rudy Indarsingh, is calling on the Acting Police Commissioner to complete the Paria Tragedy investigation.
The committee met with Acting CoP Junior Benjamin today to discuss the probe, which seeks to determine if there is enough evidence to charge Paria or any official with manslaughter due to gross negligence in the deaths of the four divers in 2022.
Mr Indarsingh said Mr Benjamin indicated that the case was at a sensitive stage and promised regular updates moving forward.
A completion timeline was not given as the investigation still requires expert advice, however the acting Top Cop assured that there is money available to procure the required services.
Also speaking after the meeting was the tragedy’s lone survivor, Christopher Boodram, who said he felt relief after speaking with Mr Benjamin.
He shared his thoughts on the ongoing police investigations.
He said the committee would continue this fight for all workers in Trinidad and Tobago.
Meanwhile, Mr Indarsingh has condemned the Energy and Labour Ministers in their handling of the matter.
He said after three years, compensation has not been given to the lone survivor or the families of the deceased.
He also called for charges against Paria officials and asked if any recommendations from the Commission of Enquiry into the incident were implemented to prevent similar tragedies.
As for the current state of the energy industry, Mr Indarsingh asked what were the government’s plans manage industrial accidents and how they address crisis management in the energy industry.
