An MP believes government’s squatting policy is failing families, while the Housing Minister is not addressing the real issues.
Mayaro MP Rushton Paray responded to a statement by Minister Camille Robinson-Regis who dismissed a newspaper editorial as a misrepresentation of realities.
The Minister insisted that government has been working to help squatters and reminded that squatting is still illegal.
However, Mr Paray says T&T’s housing supply through the HDC is failing to meet demands, there is no roadmap for regularizing squatters and there is selective enforcement of squatting laws.
He also believes government has not done anything to help families in squatting settlements who have no access to proper infrastructure, security of legal status.
