A UNC MP believes the recently announced 2025 Deepwater Bidding should have been a government priority from the get-go.
The bidding round has been officially opened with 26 blocks available for bidding, including 13 out of 17 blocks offered in the previous round.
Pointe-a-Pierre MP David Lee believes deepwater bids and monetization of deepwater gas should have been government’s focus from its very first term.
He explains that, even if the 2025 blocks are taken up by the deadline of July, they are years away from first gas and will not immediately assist the downstream sector.
Referencing the Dragon Gas deal, he insists that there is an over-reliance on cross-border Venezuelan gas which he described as “uncertain.”
