MP calls for clarification on criteria used to award home repair grants

What were the criteria used to award $2.9 million in home repair grants?

That’s the question being asked by St. Augustine MP Khadijah Ameen, who has written to Social Development Minister Donna Cox on the matter.

The grants were handed out during a ceremony held on January 27th at the Upper El Dorado Community Centre

In a statement, Ms Ameen said, “a disproportionate number of grants appear to be allocated to marginal constituencies, which raises questions about fairness and transparency.”

In her letter to Minister Cox, the St Augustine MP asked for “clarification on the specific eligibility requirements for these grants, as well as the process by which applications are reviewed and approved, in order for my office to better guide future applicants.”

She also called for an update on applications for the Minor House Repair Assistance Grant and the Sowing Entrepreneurial Enterprise Development Grant offered under the National Social Development Programme.
