Caribbean Airlines: Union’s safety claims “reckless”

Caribbean Airlines says allegations about safety made by the pilots’ union are “reckless.”

Following an emergency landing of a Tobago to Trinidad flight, the T&T Airline Pilots Association claimed that the airline has had multiple safety-related near misses with similar ATR aircraft.

However, in a media release, Caribbean Airlines says it operates in strict compliance with aviation safety regulations and is subject to strict oversight from independent regulatory bodies.

Furthermore, it reminds that there are ongoing investigations into the January 27th emergency landing, with all relevant personnel removed from active duty pending the outcome of the probe.

In Parliament on Tuesday, Finance Minister Colm Imbert said, “It appears the problem arose from inaccurate measurements of the amount of fuel in the left tank of the aircraft.”

He added, “I am told that the preliminary information is that there is nothing wrong with the aircraft itself – it was simply the measurement of the amount of fuel that was in the tank, so it’s nothing wrong with the plane.”
