Kumbh Mela: At least 12 feared dead after crowd crush

At least 12 people are feared dead after a crowd crush at a religious festival in northern India.

There has been no official confirmation of the death toll from the Kumbh Mela festival, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi has acknowledged there were deaths.

According to BBC News, eyewitnesses and hospital sources have told them that at least a dozen people died in the crush.

Officials had estimated that up to 100 million people would attend the bathing day at the Kumbh Mela – one of the world’s biggest religious festivals.
