NTA wants mandatory body camera policy enforced by TTPS

A call is being made for a mandatory body camera policy to be enforced by the T&T Police Service.

National Transformation Alliance Deputy Political Leader Lt. Cdr. Norman Dindial says the policy and its disciplinary procedures, introduced by ex-Police Commissioner and current NTA Leader Gary Griffith, are not being enforced.

His comments come after a claim by Police Complaints Authority Director David West that he has never received body camera footage and a response by the TTPS assuring that officers are using the devices.

Lt. Cdr. Dindial is calling for an immediate suspension of any officer involved in recent fatal incidents who failed to use body cameras.

He also wants a review of the TTPS leadership by the Police Service Commission and an investigation into body camera procurement, noting that questions remain about the costs.
