Prison officer charged for cannabis possession

A Prison Officer was granted $200,000 bail when he appeared before a Master of the High Court today, charged with possession of a dangerous drug.

Officers were conducting searches at the Maximum Security Prison in Arouca on January 15th 2025, when the officer was observed acting suspiciously.

A search of his rented vehicle led to the discovery of three packages containing 540 grammes of marijuana and a quantity of cigarettes.

The drug had an estimated street value of $16,200.

Jirome Walters was subsequently charged and appeared before Master Franklin in the High Court, North today.

The matter has been adjourned to February 20th 2025.
