A yellow-level hazardous seas alert comes into effect for Trinidad and Tobago from 8:30am today.

According to the Met Service, seas along the northern and eastern exposed coastal areas, including offshore regions, are expected to deteriorate to rough conditions.

There is an increased risk of strong rip currents, posing a serious hazard to beachgoers and even experienced swimmers.

The Met Service warns that conditions are expected to be perilous for offshore activities including fishing and other small craft marine interests.

The alert is set to run until 6pm on Thursday.
