T&TEC responds to OWTU

T&TEC believes a false narrative is being created as a pretext to engage in industrial action contrary to law.

The company today issued a statement in which it refers to “unfortunate statements” that it says are being made by the OWTU since the grant of an injunction against the Union.

It says the sole purpose of the injunction application, and by extension the injunction order, is to ensure that workers abide by the terms of their contract of employment, the Collective Agreement and the laws of T&T.

T&TEC says the Industrial Court heard from both sides, and condemned suggestions that the Court was bring ‘used’ to silence the Union.

It says there are no planned outages carded for the Christmas season and is committed to responding to any forced outages in a timely manner.

The Commission also responded to a claim that field workers were being forced to do overtime and work under perilous conditions.

T&TEC insists that it will continue to follow the provisions of the Collective Agreement for employees to work overtime as situations demand, and insisted that the safety of workers of paramount concern.
