The Fire Service Retirees’ Association has called for the management of the Fire Service to be given ample funding to expand its coverage capabilities.

The Fire Service has said that at the time of the fire on Monday that killed MP Lisa Morris-Julian and two of her children, its station in Arima was engaged in an industrial fire, while the Tunapuna Fire Station was responding to another house fire.

In a media release, the Association says zones to be covered by stations have grown to hundreds of thousands of lives and homes and the era of a single appliance being sufficient to cover emergency management has passed.

The Association is urging authorities to take a meaningful second look at meeting the expanding needs of the Fire Service.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that a post-mortem has determined that the MP and her children died due to smoke inhalation.

This is according to a report by the Trinidad Express which said the post-mortem was conducted hours after a fire on Monday.
