Finance Minister speaks again on Tobago airport project

The Finance Minister has addressed more concerns about the Tobago airport project.

In his second media briefing on the matter in two days, Minister Colm Imbert returned to the claim that engineering firm CEP was fired for failing to rubber stamp substandard work.

He said CEP had given design approvals early on in the project, which were later reviewed, with future potential impacts of climate change being considered.

Mr Imbert said he asked whether there was any dispute with CEP during their tenure on the project.

OPPOSITION CONTINUES CALL FOR INVESTIGATION

Meanwhile, the Opposition Leader has stood by her call for a criminal investigation into the project.

In a media release, she referred to letters shared by the Minister today from NIDCO and an external consultant, speaking to the quality of the work done.

Mrs Kamla Persad-Bissessar said the letters did not provide financial or technical evidence.

Instead, firm in her stance about cost overruns, the Opposition Leader asked for technical test results and audited account statements.
