UPDATED: Tsunami warning cancelled; 7.0 quake recorded off northern California

A tsunami warning has been cancelled after being put in place following a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of northern California.

The epicentre of the tremor was recorded near Ferndale, California and there have been multiple aftershocks since the initial earthquake.

BBC News says California Governor Gavin Newsom has been briefed on the earthquakes and is meeting with state emergency officials to help coordinate the response.

More than 10,000 people are without power in California’s Humboldt County.
