The University of the West Indies has announced the appointment of six new professors.

Three are attached to its St Augustine Campus: Dr Chris Maharaj is now Professor of Materials and Manufacturing; Dr Venkatesan Sundaram is now Professor of Veterinary Anatomy; and Dr Brian Cockburn is now Professor of Biochemistry.

The other newly appointed professors are:

• Dr David Yawson from the Cave Hill Campus – now Professor of Agri-Food Systems and Environmental Resilience.
• Dr Derek Mitchell from the Mona Campus – now Professor of General Surgery
• Dr Zoyah Kinkead-Clark from the Mona Campus – now Professor of Early Childhood Care and Education

The University says their promotion to the institution’s highest academic rank reflects their excellence in teaching, research, publications, and their contributions to both regional and international communities.
