Sufficiency hearing set in PC Banahar’s murder case

A sufficiency hearing has been set for November 12th, 2025 in the murder of PC Krishna Banahar.

The policeman was shot and killed on November 6th, 2024 while on duty at St Rose Street in Guapo.

The TTPS says officers heard loud explosions and saw a man with a gun who fired at them when they demanded that he drop the weapon.

PC Banahar and another man were on the ground during the gunfire and were both later taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

That same day, police arrested a male suspect.

Mwanza Joseph, a proprietor of the same address, appeared in court on November 13th, 2024, charged with murder and will reappear next year for the sufficiency hearing.

According to the judiciary, under new Administration of Justice (Indictable Proceedings) Act legislation and Rules of Court, new indictable cases are filed directly at the Criminal High Court, and progress through Initial and Sufficiency hearings before proceeding to trial.
