Chemotherapy services have resumed at the Cancer Centre in St James.
In a statement, the NWRHA said the “operational downtime” was due to unforeseen delays in procuring specialized filters that are essential to ensuring a sterile environment for the preparation of chemotherapy drugs.
It said the filters had to be customized and manufactured by an external provider, and then shipped to Trinidad.
To deal with the backlog, it says some patients will be contacted to schedule chemotherapy services on Saturdays during the month of November.
Persons who are still experiencing delays with their chemotherapy treatments are also asked to contact the NWRHA’s hotline at 493-2838.
