The NTA believes Trinidad’s Jouvert can learn from Tobago’s Jouvert.
The island held its Carnival celebrations this past weekend and NTA Political Leader Gary Griffith believes there were successes that can significantly improve safety, planning, and the overall enjoyment of Jouvert in Trinidad.
Among other things, he believes holding Jouvert on the same day as Carnival Monday stretches police resources as duty for the event runs from almost midnight to midday, immediately followed by Carnival Monday.
He says hosting Jouvert on a separate day, would allow the full force of law enforcement to focus on the event.
He also believes Jouvert should begin later in the Day as opposed to the early hours of the morning, and should follow a fixed route, the latter of which forces the TTPS to scatter its resources.
Mr Griffith says while he expects objections to these recommendations, he believes it is because many simply fear change.
