Kelly Village and surrounding communities have become overrun by brutal criminality, according to Caroni East MP Dr. Rishad Seecheran.

His statement comes after the shooting of WPC Quianna Mahabir outside her home around 1:35am on Tuesday – Mahabir is said to be in critical condition in hospital.

MP Dr. Seecheran says he has made repeated calls over the past four years for a police post in Kelly Village, along with more patrols and CCTV cameras, among other tools.

However, he claims that security measures implemented are having no impact as crimes including murders, shootings, home invasions and extortion continue to plague the community.

He adds that the situation is having a devastating impact on businesses, families and all in society.
