T&TEC responds to issues raised by workers

T&TEC insists it is adequately resourced to provide a safe and reliable electricity supply to the country, particularly Tobago.

The assurance follows claims by OWTU workers during a protest in Scarborough, Tobago and a number of areas across Trinidad on Friday.

They raised issues including working conditions, stalled wage negotiations and alleged shortages in equipment and manpower.

In a statement, T&TEC pledged to do everything within its power to ensure the country’s electricity supply remains reliable.

It also addressed the matter of salary negotiations, stating that – like all State bodies – it is bound by certain rules that guide talks with employee bargaining groups.

T&TEC says, “The OWTU is aware of the process and will be advised about the resumption of negotiations in due course.”
