T&T’s Phil Simmons is expected to take over as interim Head Coach of the Bangladesh cricket team until the 2025 Champions Trophy.

According to ESPNcricinfo, this comes as head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe has been suspended for 48 hours on two counts of misconduct and is to be terminated immediately after that period.

cricinfo quotes BCB president Faruque Ahmed as saying that, “First is about an assault on a player. Secondly, he took too many leaves, more than what was in his contract.”

Hathurusinghe’s replacement, Simmons, has an international coaching career that included West Indies, Zimbabwe, Ireland and Afghanistan.

During his international playing career, he suited up for West Indies in 26 Tests and 143 ODIs, while he represented T&T, Durham and Leicestershire domestically.
