A 20-year-old man was shot and killed by police on Friday.

According to the TTPS, the incident occurred around 1:30 pm, while officers were on escort duty along Buen Intento Road, Princes Town.

They were heading east when they were alerted to a woman seeking assistance.

The officers stopped and further investigations revealed that the suspect had earlier caused damage to the woman’s vehicle.

Two female officers identified themselves to the man who allegedly began acting aggressively.

He is said to have menacingly advanced towards the officers and allegedly launched at the Woman Police, coming into contact with the firearm she was holding.

A brief struggle ensued during which time a loud explosion was heard.

The TTPS says the officer attempted to retreat while the man continued to advance, causing her to fire two rounds in the direction of the suspect.

He was taken to the Princes Town Health Facility where he was pronounced dead.

The TTPS says the officers were also examined and advised to seek psychiatric counselling at the San Fernando General Hospital.
