Delays in chemotherapy services at the Cancer Centre of T&T in St James is as a result of challenges in receiving a special filter for a piece of equipment.

This is according to the North West Regional Health Authority which says interim measures have been implemented.

It notes that manufacturer delays and disruptions in international shipping logistics have delayed the receipt of a filter for the cytotoxic cabinet at the St James facility.

The NWRHA says the replacement filter is expected to arrive within the next two weeks, and installation will be carried out immediately.

In the meantime, an alternative chemo drug preparation site has been secured at the Port of Spain hospital, there have been adjustments to patient coordination and scheduling and additional workers have been assigned to the Cancer Centre to accommodate later treatment hours due to the off-site preparation of the drugs.
