An MP believes the Education Minister omitted “troubling trends” in SEA results, during her budget debate contribution.
St Augustine MP Khadijah Ameen says Minister Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly boasted about improvements in CAPE and CSEC results under the PNM with what she calls “cherry-picked data.”
Instead, MP Ameen believes there has been a continuous decline in performance at the SEA level, with only 57.9% of students scoring 50% or more in 2024.
This figure, she notes, stood at 62.6% in 2020.
Furthermore, MP Ameen says, under the People’s Partnership, 91% of students were scoring 50% or more, with as much as 14% scoring over 90%.
She adds that the reality of the current situation at the SEA level must be addressed urgently by government.
