MP: Gov’t must hold discussions with port, unions and stakeholders

Government is being urged to intervene to address a strike at the Port of Spain Port which threatens to negatively impact the Christmas and Carnival periods.

Last week, port workers walked off the job at least twice over wages and health and safety concerns.

Yesterday, the TTMA revealed that this action will result in a close to one-month delay in retrieving goods and warned of increased prices going into Christmas and Carnival.

In a media release today, Mayaro MP Rushton Paray says if government does not act swiftly, the costs will be felt in every household across the country.

He is calling on government to urgently convene discussions with port management, unions, and relevant stakeholders to resolve the impasse.
