Al Rawi: UNC’s plans for T&T “just cannot work”

Government Minister Faris Al Rawi has responded to the Opposition’s stance on certain aspects of the upcoming fiscal year.

Over the weekend, UNC MP David Lee revealed that the party would scrap property tax “within days” if re-elected to government.

In his budget debate contribution this morning, Minister Al Rawi said the UNC also plans to halt any potential increase in electricity rates and offer a higher public sector wage increase.

However, he said he has heard nothing about revenue generation to pay for expenses and warned this would mean having to borrowing money.

He insisted that the UNC’s plans “just cannot work”.

Minister Al Rawi said, by contrast, the PNM’s 2025 budget offers a revenue generating aspects, like the Revenue Authority’s operationalization, property tax, the upgraded Tobago airport and five-star hotels.
