Patriotic dismisses Energy Minister’s “fake document” claim

Patriotic Energy is challenging a claim that it submitted a fraudulent document in its bid for the Pointe a Pierre refinery.

In Parliament, Energy Minister Stuart Young said there was a document which purported that Patriotic received US$1.5 billion as a way to prove its ability to finance the refinery’s operations.

However, he alleged that the document was later found to be fraudulent, and Patriotic could not move forward.

In a media release, Patriotic says Mr Young’s statement is misleading, adding that it removed three initial potential financiers and, on August 3rd, submitted a new financial partner.

It claims the cabinet-appointed evaluation committee did not raise any issues of fraudulent documents with the company or this new partner and believes it has been meeting the requirements of the bidding process.

Patriotic is calling for the bidding process to be redone in the interest of fairness and transparency.
