The Opposition Leader used her budget response in Parliament to put what she called “broken promises” by the PNM into numbers.
At 10am, Mrs Kamla Persad-Bissessar started her official reply to the 2024/25 fiscal package, having over five hours at her disposal.
Among her areas of focus was government’s proposals over the past nine years.
Mrs Persad-Bissessar also raised questions about the Office of the Prime Minister’s allocation for the fiscal year, noting the PM’s recent warning of difficult times for T&T until new gas production in 2027.
The Opposition Leader also questioned what she said are inconsistencies in the Finance Minister’s estimates and revenues in the Budget presentation.
She believes the estimated revenue of $54.224 billion is not adding up, and accused the Minister of failing to state that $107 billion was borrowed from 2015 to the end of fiscal 2023/24.
The theme of her Budget response was: A Decade of Debt, Deficits, Destabilization, Death and Destruction.
