A man was fatally shot by police this morning in Malick, Barataria.
According to Senior Superintendent Mervyn Edwards, head of the North Eastern Division, it happened during an anti-crime exercise being held in response to several incidents last week, including murders.
He said the officers were confronted by an armed man in a forested area off 6th Avenue.
He was shot by the officers and later died at hospital.
The man has since been identified as 44-year-old Jerry Ruben, a fisherman from 10th Street, Upper 6th Avenue, Malick.
