Former T&T footballer Dwight Yorke says he is vindicated after being awarded around US$290,000 following his 2023 sacking by Australia’s Macarthur FC.
Yorke was fired after 13 games in charge of the club after comments he is alleged to have made following a lost 1-0 to Adelaide United.
The club claimed that he referred to his side as a “pub team” and that he said he destroyed his reputation by being its manager – allegations Yorke denies.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Friday upheld a FIFA Players’ Status Chamber decision that Macarthur pay Yorke.
The Chamber had ruled that the club had breached the parties’ contract and sacked him without just cause.
In a social media post, Yorke said the Court is the second independent body in 18 months to examine the facts and find in his favour.
He expressed sadness at being denied a chance to continue building Macarthur FC which he believes had seen short-term results during his tenure.
