Policeman urges public to reach out to anti-extortion task force

With 21 extortion-related cases recorded by police for the year so far, people are being urged reach out to the newly established anti-extortion task force.

Acting Inspector Kurt Callender made the plea while speaking on the TTT NOW Morning Show today.

He explained that, for 2024 so far, police have recorded 19 cases of Demanding Money by Menace and two cases of Threatening with Intent to Extort, noting that one case can result in multiple charges.

The Acting Inspector added that these offences fall under what people locally refer to as “protection money.”

Mr Callender said if persons believe they are being extorted, they can call the anti-extortion task force at 797-3150 or reach out to any police station.

He insisted that it is critical that police receive the information so they can launch investigations.

The task force was announced by Police Commissioner Erla Christopher during a media briefing over the weekend.
