A report into the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire in London, which killed 72 people, says the incident was the result of “dishonest” companies, decades of failure by the UK government, and a lack of strategy by the fire service.
The final report of a six-year public inquiry explained that a cladding product manufacturer “deliberately concealed” fire risks while coalition and Conservative governments “ignored, delayed or disregarded” concerns.
Furthermore, the inquiry’s chair says all 72 deaths were avoidable.
UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer issued a state apology, saying the disaster should “never have happened.”
He added that Grenfell residents were “ignored” and left in a “death trap”.
