UDeCOTT claims two farmers on land in Diego Martin refused compensation as it sought to repossess the land for works on the Diego Martin Sporting Complex.
According to reports, the farmers were upset when the land they say they have occupied for 50 years was repossessed.
UDeCOTT says the area was occupied by “three illegal occupiers”, and since talks with them began in 2020, only one accepted an offer of a parcel of land and compensation for his crops.
It claims the two other occupiers refused the offer and instead requested over $1.1 million each – they were later served with notices to vacate.
UDeCOTT adds that the farmers’ crops were reaped by three workers and handed over to the former occupiers of the land.
The works carded for the Diego Martin Sporting Complex include a play park, homework centre, a playfield, two multipurpose hard courts, a swimming pool, pavilion, public washrooms and an electrical kiosk.
