One person who was shot at New York City’s West Indian American Day Parade in Brooklyn has died.
According to CBS, the victim is 25-year-old Denzel A. Chan of Texas.
A gunman “fired his weapon numerous times into a crowd” during the event yesterday.
In addition to the deceased, four others were also wounded.
The NYPD is still searching for the suspect, described as 6-foot with a slim build, and last seen wearing a bandana over his face.
The parade is a Labor Day tradition in Brooklyn.
CBS says Mayor Eric Adams released a joint statement with the West Indian American Day Carnival Association saying, “The NYPD is investigating this incident, and we are grateful for the brave men and women who quickly responded and helped to ensure New Yorkers could continue to be safe while celebrating. While we are keeping the victims and their families in our prayers as they fight to recover, we know we must do more to combat gun violence and ensure the safety of every New Yorker and visitor.”
