PM: changing Coat of Arms will not cost “hundreds of millions”

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley insists the move to replace the three ships on the Coat of Arms with the steelpan will not cost hundreds of millions of dollars.

There has been much public debate since the announcement was made, with some criticism focused on the cost of enforcing the change, since the emblem is included on items from official documents to currency.

He said while there will be some costs incurred, it will not be much since most of the changes would be transitional.

Dr Rowley said designer Gillian Bishop is working on several new designs, from which Cabinet will select one.

He adds that the move itself must first pass through the Parliament and insisted that it was not about changing history, but incorporating something that tells more about T&T.
