The Office of the Attorney General has issued further clarification regarding a news report on a matter involving a payment to Vincent Nelson.
It referred to an article in the Express on the state’s pursuit Nelson testifying against former Attorney General Anand Ramlogan and attorney Gerald Ramdeen which read “Nelson Legal Fees Top $72M”.
The AG’s Office says the $72m is an inflated figure which comprises both legal fees and legal costs.
It adds that the article was premature to say that the state has had no success in pursuing the plea bargain as there are active matters before the courts from which value can be derived.
It says while it is correct that the DPP has discontinued corruption charges against Ramlogan and Ramdeen, there are ongoing proceedings for which that information remains essential.
The AG’s Office says government remains committed to combatting white-collar crime.
