Planned shutdown of Caroni Water Treatment Plant

WASA has confirmed the temporary shutdown of the Caroni Water Treatment Plant for maintenance work.

This will result in a water supply interruption from noon on Friday 9th August to noon on Sunday 11th August 2024.

WASA says critical electrical maintenance work will be done at the Plant, as well as ancillary works along the Caroni North and South transmission pipeline network.

Upon completion of these works, it is anticipated that the Authority will minimize future downtime, extend the lifespan of critical equipment currently in operation and enhance safety protocols, which is necessary for sustaining the reliability and efficiency of water distribution and production systems.

To mitigate the effects of this supply shortfall on operations, WASA says it will implement the following measures during the period of shutdown:

  • Re-distribution of supply from other water treatment facilities
  • Ensure capacity storage at critical service reservoirs
  • Increased water trucking capacity
  • Special emphasis and arrangements to supply health institutions, homes for aged and other special needs organizations

The supply to affected areas is expected to be restored over a 24 – 48-hour period, in accordance with established supply schedules.

Different areas in North, Central and South Trinidad will be impacted.
