Continued protests in Venezuela over election result

Protesters have again taken to the streets in Venezuela over the recently announced result for the Presidential Election.

Nicolas Maduro was declared the winner in a poll that has been marred by allegations of fraud and irregularities.

The opposition instead claims that its candidate, Edmundo Gonzalez, got more than twice as many votes as Mr Maduro.

Al Jazeera says opposition protesters marched in the capital Caracas and a number of other cities today.

This is a continuation of demonstrations that began yesterday when the country’s electoral body declared the result in favour of the incumbent President.

Tear gas and rubber bullets were allegedly fired by police during the demonstrations on Monday.

The rights group Foro Penal also alleges that at least six people were killed around the country in incidents related to the election count or the protests.
