Innings defeat for WI as England bowlers thrive in Anderson’s farewell

James Anderson’s farewell Test could not have gone better for England, beating West Indies by an innings and 114 runs.

Gus Atkinson has overshadowed Anderson on the field, ending with match figures of 12/106.

West Indies were bowled out for 121 in the first innings with 7/45 for Atkinson and 1/26 for Anderson before England made 371 – a lead of 250.

Then, Atkinson was at it again, taking 5/61 with Anderson in a supporting role grabbing 3/32, to bowl out West Indies for 136 – defeat by an innings and 114 runs.

Focus turns to the second Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham from 6am on Thursday.

James Anderson made his debut for England in Tests 21 years ago against Zimbabwe at Lord’s in May 2003.

He has ended with 704 wickets – the third most in Tests behind only Shane Warne (708) and Muthiah Muralidaran (800).
