Russia lays out terms for ceasefire in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin has laid out his terms for a ceasefire in Ukraine.

According to BBC News, Mr Putin says Ukraine would need to withdraw troops from territories Russia claims to have annexed before the ceasefire could begin.

However, Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky has called that a Hitler-like “ultimatum”.

Mr Zelensky has long said that Ukraine will not negotiate with Moscow until Russian forces leave all Ukrainian territory, including Crimea.

The Russian president also said Ukraine would have to give up on joining Nato before peace talks could start.

Mr Putin’s ceasefire conditions come as leaders from 90 countries prepare to meet in Switzerland on Saturday to discuss paths towards peace in Ukraine.

BBC News says Russia has not been invited to the summit, however Mr Zelensky will attend in the hopes of showing that he still enjoys wide international support.
